Teltonika FM1000 Vehicle Telematics Unit

The Teltonika FM1000 is a vehicle telematics unit designed for easy connection via a vehicle's OBDII port. It can read telemetry data from the vehicle's diagnostic system, monitor ignition status, and detect harsh driving behavior. Suitable applications include fleet and mobile workforce management, usage based insurance, car rental, and teenage driver tracking.

Location and Tracking

  • Embedded with GPS chip and GLONASS support.
  • Does not support Assisted GPS (A GPS), so signal acquisition may take up to a couple of minutes.
  • Utilizes Cell ID location (LBS tracking) as a backup.
  • Flexible tracking mode configurable by distance, time, and turning.

OBDII Data Reading

FM1000 reads various data from the vehicle's diagnostic system, including:

Mobile Networks

The standard quad band GSM module allows usage in most regions covered by 2G GSM networks. The SIM card slot accommodates a normal size SIM card.

Power Supply

FM1000 powers through the OBDII Connector Type A, requiring a voltage range of 10 16V. The built in rechargeable Li ion backup battery provides about one hour of operation when fully charged.

Ignition Status

The virtual “Ignition” flag is determined by:

  • External power voltage (configured default level is 10V)
  • Digital Input #1 signal
  • Internal accelerometer detecting movement

Stop/Movement Mode

Determines vehicle status using configurable methods:

  • Board Voltage
  • Acceleration
  • GNSS speed detection

Sleep Modes

  • Normal Sleep Mode: GNSS module OFF, GSM module ON, power consumption < 2 mA.
  • Deep Sleep Mode: Both GNSS and GSM modules OFF, power consumption < 2 mA.

Driving Behavior Monitoring

FM1000 allows monitoring of driving behavior through two scenarios:

  • Green Driving: Monitors harsh acceleration, braking, and cornering.
  • Over Speeding: Alerts when exceeding a specified speed limit.

Local and Remote Management

While FM1000 cannot be controlled over GPRS, it supports firmware updates via GPRS (FOTA) and allows configuration through SMS commands. Configuration can also be done using the Teltonika Configurator software via USB.

FM1000 features two green LEDs on the back panel:
